Begun in 1967 as a Centennial Project, the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts opened in 1970. It underwent a major renovation in the early 1980s with the generous support of Mrs. Bluma Appel, a major patron of the arts. The 870 seats theatre was renamed in her honour, and along with the 497 seat Jane Mallett theatre are home to the following performing arts, theatre and music companies: Esprit Orchestra, Hannaford Street Silver Band, Music Toronto, Opera in Concert, The Canadian Stage Company, Toronto Operetta Theatre
Bluma Appel Theatre
The 876-seat theatre, typically used for large scale works, features a proscenium stage with the flexibility of an optional front thrust or orchestra pit to accommodate a wide range of presentations. The seating capacity is 531 in Orchestra, 319 in Dress Circle, and 26 in Boxes, with wheelchair accommodation on orchestra and box levels. Elegant lobbies featurr full bar service, coat check and spacious accessible washrooms.
The rental costs range from $6,500 to $7,500 per day, depending on the complexity of the technical requirements.
Jane Mallett Theatre
The 497 seat, Jane Mallett Theatre offers an intimate environment with superior sight lines and exceptional acoustics, equipped with a lighting grid and unique fly system, the semi-circular thrust stage is ideal for concerts, theatrical productions as well as the most demanding high-tech audiovisual presentations. The seating capacity: is 497, with 252 in the Lower Orchestra , 21 in the Cross Aisle (with accessible seating)) and 224 in the Upper Orchestra.
Stage Dimensions 43'0"/13.11m wide (at apron), 38'6"/11.73m 9at updstage entrance) and 25'0"/7.62m deep (from the back wall to apron). Rental costs range from $2,500 to $4,500 per day depending on the complexity of technical requirements.
