Toronto Businesses and Websites can Link to FoundLocally

We are always pleased when visitors want to link to the helpful information our site and use our logo on their Internet site. FoundLocally does not participate in "Link Exchanges" popular with web marketers, since we already provide free listings (with a web link) top all local businesses. Of course, a link back to us is always appreciated (but not required).

The easiest way to do this is follow these link instructions:

  1. Select the desired size of logo from the images below
  2. Copy the corresponding code below (right from the visible text) and paste into your web page's HTML
  3. Modify the code to specify the target web page (replace index.htm with Computers/Software.htm, for example. You can also update the www with a specific FoundLocally city name.

TIP: If you want to link to a specific page:

  1. Display the desired page on FoundLocally
  2. Copy the link reference from your browser's location bar (copy everything including the http://...)
  3. Paste the link inside the quotation marks in the <A HREF=" link reference,

Link Exchange Requests

We are always flattered when we receive e-mails offering a link exchange. The premise of link exhanges is that, Google (and other search engiens) will range pages higher in their indexes if there are more links to the site (or to a prticular page), which in theory treast that page a shaving a higher recognized importantce, in effect being more "authoritative".

As a general rule of thumb, link exchanges can improve your Google PageRank score when

(a) you receive a linked from a site that Google recognizes is more "authoritive" than yours

(b) the site linking to you has a higher PageRank score (install the Google Toolbar in your browser to see scores while surfing),

(c) the page linked-from is fairly high in that website's structural hierarchy, and therefore inherits much of its website's ParRank (and not buried deep, and therefore valueless), and

(d) the number of links on the page you are linked from is lower than the number of links on the page YOU are ofering in return.

Page Rank you receive = Their web page's PageRank [divided by] the total number of links out from that page

Page Rank you give back = Your webpage's PageRank [divided by] the total number of links out from your page

Often, those offering the link exchange have SO MANY links on the page in return, that there is no net benefit. Others delete their reciprocal link pages after naive website owners have posted links to them. Nowadays, Google and other major search engines completely ignore these "link farms" and particularly abusive sites are totally blacklisted. So, WHY BOTHER?

We have decided that our existing FREE LISTINGS database already provides a link back to anybody [who has a business or organization in CANADA] who add themselves to our directory. Plus you can post a description, add a logo, and help people find your organization many differnt ways through our database. There is no requirement for a link back to us! Of course, we're grateful if you do, which is why we have some sample code at the top of this page.
