Founded in 1919 by women graduates of the University of Toronto, Alumnae Theatre's mandate is to present the best in classic and contemporary plays.
Today, Alumnae's home is the old Firehall No. 4 on Berkeley Street at Adelaide. Built in 1900, this handsome building was renovated and restored by the Alumnae in 1972, and contains a fully equipped main stage and an intimate studio theatre, as well as a workshop, a well-stocked wardrobe, backstage and lobby space, and a benign ghost.

Our MainStage and Studio performance spaces are frequently rented by other theatre companies, and film and television crews for location shoots.
The Alumnae Studio is located in the attic of the theatre and is not air-conditioned. Both the seating risers and the stage can be reconfigured (extra charge). Maximum capacity is 90 seats. The stage is 20' deep and 25' wide. The Studio features open wooden beams and large windows that can be hidden or exposed - it is ideal for smaller independent productions. Rentals include lighting and sound equipment, use of the dressing rooms located on the second floor, lobby and box office. Box office/technical staff are not included.
The Alumnae MainStage is a traditional black box theatre, fully air-conditioned with 140 seats. Rentals include lighting and sound equipment, use of the dressing rooms and lobby and box office. Stage dimensions are 32.5' wide, 28' deep and 16'2" to grid. Box office/technical staff are not included.
